Hiking trails in Andorra: Estanyó Lake, in the Sorteny Natural Park

The Sorteny Natural Park, one of the three natural parks in Andorra, is a botanical paradise that houses more than 700 species of plants inside and in its botanical garden.
If on previous occasions we informed you about family hiking trails such as the Tristaina Lakes, also in the Ordino-Arcalís area, this time we propose you to go up to Lake Estanyó and, optionally, to Estanyó Peak, for the most trained.
A slightly more demanding hiking trail: Estanyó Lake and Estanyó Peak
September is a perfect month for the ascent of the Lake or Pico d'Estanyó, located between the Vall de Sorteny and the Vall del Riu and being the second highest mountain in Andorra, with its 2915 m. Its geographical location between Ordino and Canillo separates the Valira river into two branches, and makes it a viewpoint of Andorra and the Pyrenees. During the month of September you will find a great wealth of fauna (marmots, butterflies ...), flora and greenery during the tour, in addition to the constant presence of water in the form of rivers and streams.
Estanyó, two hiking trails for two occasions: walk to the Lake or ascend to the Peak
L'Estanyó is accessed by two routes, from the Vall del Riu, near Canillo, or from El Serrat (where the Bringué Hotels are located), following the track to the right of the Ordino-Arcalís road that leads to the Vall of Sorteny. We choose this second option, more direct.
At the entrance of the Sorteny Natural Park, almost at the end of the Ordino road to Arcalís and past the town of El Serrat, you will find a parking lot and an information booth, to be clear about your hiking trail.
From there you can make the hiking route that leads to Lago d’Estanyó, at 2356 meters high, forming a small circus. It is a route of about 7’4 km and 4 hours of complete travel to the Lake, having a low difficulty. If you dare to continue, the complete route of the ascent to Pico d'Estanyó is almost 13 km, with 1157 meters of positive slope and about 7 hours (medium difficulty).
Camins d'Andorra: a good guide for hiking enthusiasts in Andorra
We recommend the Camins d'Andorra Guide, available only in Andorra (at Tourist Offices). It consists of a collection of hiking trails, in the form of comfortable chips in a box, each with technical and practical information of each hiking trail, to choose the best route for each and avoid getting lost.
